Optimizing SAP Landscapes

Removing Redundancies and Cleaning Outdated Source-Code Constructs

"Optimizing applies not only to the numerous extensions that many SAP systems have collected through years of customization and modification, but also to the many outdated source-code constructs that have arisen over the years  as SAP has continued to improve source-code syntax.“

Optimizing applies not only to the numerous extensions that many SAP systems have collected through years of customization and modification, but also to the many outdated source-code constructs that have arisen over the years  as SAP has continued to improve source-code syntax.
You are faced with the challenge of upgrading your SAP landscape to a new release: a perfect opportunity to do some "spring cleaning".

Many of the additional programs developed over the years have become redundant due to standards catching up with innovation, and equal or better functionality being offered, or because changing requirements have caused those functions to no longer be relevant. Keeping them is an unnecessary effort. We identify often used and no longer used program code and provide you with a reliable basis for deciding which programs and functions to keep, and which to discard. For every redundant program and interface you save yourself the effort of keeping, your project becomes more streamlined, saving you time and money.

The other side of "spring cleaning" concerns the source-code. Over the years SAP has improved an immense quantity of commands and code-constructs and made these available to customers via new releases. The process is a continuous one and SAP recommends customers deploy new syntax to ensure future compatibility with new releases. A part of this is the recommendation to use certain code-elements whilst avoiding others. While using new source code is often faster to run and provides better system stability, it also leads to an increase in the amount of redundant code in the system. While this is not necessarily detrimental, it does lead to performance losses and unnecessary complexity.

How can redundant commands be found quickly and affordably? smartShift has tools to identify customer-developed code, track down outdated constructs and automatically replace them with SAP-recommended syntax.  If you are interested in carrying out general SAP-landscape optimization, we would love to hear from you and offer you our support

smartShift's SaaS Analysis for SAP is the most advanced approach for obtaining complete details about ABAP custom code for your upgrade and modernization projects.
