The process is a continuous one and SAP recommends customers deploy new syntax to ensure future compatibility with new releases. A part of this is the recommendation to use certain code-elements whilst avoiding others. While using new source code is often faster to run and provides better system stability, it also leads to an increase in the amount of redundant code in the system. While this is not necessarily detrimental, it does lead to performance losses and unnecessary complexity.
